Glorified ambulance chaser reveals slime-ball status

Via Drudge, here's the man with a sixth sense admitting the extra-marital affair on ABC News:

John Edwards repeatedly lied during his Presidential campaign about an extra-marital affair with a novice film-maker, the former Senator admitted to ABC News today.

In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 42-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her.

And now we know for certain what many already guessed: John Edwards is a lying slimeball who was almost our Vice President. But that's not the story here. The story is the media's coverage, or lack thereof, of this Edwards rumor that has now been proved true.

When the National Enquirer first posited this story late last year, the mainstream media (and most of us) were rightfully skeptical. The Enquirer isn't exactly the New York Times, so we didn't hear much about it from the respectable media. A few weeks ago, they ran this one, alleging that Edwards had been seen with his mistress in Los Angeles. That started a scurry among the blogosphere, but the mainstream was strangely quiet. Too quiet.

In fact, there seemed to be a moratorium on any mention of John Edwards who, up until a few months ago, was a major party candidate for President of the United States and then had a good shot at becoming Attorney General or even Vice President for Obama. Where was the coverage? At least a column or blog post about the ridiculousness of such a charge should have surfaced.

Instead, we heard about Tony Pierce, the totally hip LA Times blog editor that told his staff to "keep rockin" as long as "rockin" consisted of not mentioning John Edwards on the blogs. Finally, after all the pressure mounted with this photographic update from the Enquirer, Edwards comes forward to do an interview with ABC to "explain himself."

You gotta feel bad for Elizabeth, but perhaps she should have seen him as the sleaze ball we all knew he was. Despicable.

I have no idea why people are so interested in personal life of each other. I do not think that "bed questions" is the best theme for discussion.
