"We are hearing from people that this is compromising every single sector of our economy."
Rep. Marsha Blackburn's on MSNBC (she put down the light bulb she was carrying around this morning), and huffy old Andrea Mitchell just asked her why she's not up nailing the 95 Theses to the White House door. Shame on you, Mitchell: Blackburn has already written a letter to President Bush to require Congress to go back into session:
"It is simply irresponsible for Congress to adjourn for five weeks without taking any action to address the skyrocketing price at the pump. Congress has the power to dramatically reduce Tennesseans' energy costs, and put America on the path to long term energy independence. Unfortunately the liberal leadership of this House lacks the will to get the job done. I call on the President and the Speaker to call Congress back into session. Perhaps in Washington’s August heat we can provide Americans the relief they deserve.”
Like a crazy fox, Blackburn then managed to both diffuse Obama's critique of McCain's energy inaction over the years in Lansing, Michigan today, and make Mitchell chuckle uncomfortably. Yes, employing folksy folklore of her grandmother scolding her and her cousins for getting on her last nerve as an analogy for the American people and energy concerns forced Andrea to laugh. Marsha Blackburn: laughing with damn determination.
